Our Story

Founded in 1959 as a neighborhood butcher shop, the business gradually evolved into a European-style gourmet store now known as La Vieille Europe. It has always remained family-owned, with the three current owners each bringing their own area of expertise. This shared passion allows the store to focus on both quality and variety.

Today, customers can discover a wide selection of European imports alongside carefully chosen local Québécois products. La Vieille Europe was also one of the first micro-roasters in Montreal, and our coffee is still roasted in-store to ensure maximum freshness. With more than 75 varieties available, there is a coffee to suit every taste.

La Vieille Europe has become a destination for freshly sliced charcuterie and cheeses, freshly roasted coffee, imported specialties, local gourmet products as well as sandwiches and coffee.

Throughout the year, we offer unique seasonal and holiday specialties - from traditional Christmas cakes and Easter treats to raclette cheeses and other European classics. Whether you are looking for a taste of Europe or a specialty from a local Quebec producer, you will always find something special.
